Ultrasound
Ultrasound (Medical Ultrasonography) utilises sound waves to visualise muscles, tendons, and internal organs in real time, capturing their size, structure, and any pathology. You will need to lie down on an ultrasound table, water-based gel will be applied to the examined area, and an ultrasound probe would be pressed firmly against your skin to visualise the underlying organs and structures.
Preparation

Please fast for 6 hours. This is includes no food, cigarettes or gum.
You are allowed to have water and medication.
Black coffee and tea are also okay, but no milk or sugar is to be added.

A full bladder is required.
Please empty your bladder two hours prior to your appointment, and then drink 750mls (2-3 cups) of water over the next hour.
You should finish drinking your water one hour prior.
Once, you have finished drinking your water, please HOLD until your appointment.

You should be finished drinking your water one hour prior.
Once, you have finished drinking your water, please HOLD until your appointment.

No preparation is required once you are over 22 weeks.

Yes, family members or partners may attend.

Albany Imaging strives to bulk-bill our patients wherever possible.
However due to Medicare criteria and some restrictions on referrers there can be an applicable fee.
The fee will be discussed with you at the time of booking.

Yes, ultrasounds are safe, there is no ionizing radiation that is used.

Once, our sonographer has taken the required measurements to check baby's growth they will be happy to check the gender.
The sonographer is happy to reveal it in person or provide a small card inside of a black envelope if you are wishing to do a gender reveal.

If you are a new patient with Albany Imaging, you will receive a text message with a link to view your pictures a few days after your scan.
If you follow this link, it will prompt you to verify your access and create an account.
If you have already attended Albany Imaging previously, you will not receive a link to create an account.
You will need to enable push notifications on the app, and the app will notify you when the pictures are available for viewing.

Unfortunately, no photos or videography is allowed in the rooms.
Your pictures will be available for viewing on the scanaptics patient portal.
