WHAT IS AN ULTRASOUND?

Ultrasound (Medical Ultrasonography) utilises sound waves to visualise muscles, tendons, and internal organs in real time, capturing their size, structure, and any pathology. You will need to lie down on an ultrasound table, water-based gel will be applied to the examined area, and an ultrasound probe would be pressed firmly against your skin to visualise the underlying organs and structures.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • We provide high quality pregnancy scans such as dating scan, anatomy scan and growth scan.

  • Vascular ultrasound uses sound waves to evaluate the body's circulatory system and help identify blockages in the arteries and veins and detect blood clots.

  • We do musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound to assess muscles, tendons and soft tissue for injury and/or lesions.

  • Experience non-invasive, quantitative assessment for confident diagnosis of tissue stiffness.

  • An ultrasound scan can be used to monitor an unborn baby, diagnose a condition or guide a radiologist during a certain procedures.

  • We are excited to annouce Albany Imaging is able to offer specialised deep infiltrating endometriosis scans that are reported by Dr Jeffery who is a gynaecologist and obstetrican.

FAQs

  • Water-based gel will be applied to the examined area, and an ultrasound probe would be pressed firmly against your skin to visualise the underlying organs and structures. 

  • The images will be reviewed by a Radiologist and a report will be sent to the referring doctor within a week for non-urgent examinations via electronic methods or fax.

    Urgent reports will be faxed or telephoned directly to your doctor, immediately following your examination.

    Please note, the sonographer will not discuss results in the rooms with patients. If a copy of the result is desired the patient will need to speak with their referring doctor.

    Alternatively, if the patient would like a copy of their images ONLY they will be able to create an account with our patient portal - Scanaptics. Please refer to the for patient's section for more information regarding the patient portal.

    We ask that no videography or photos are taken in the rooms.

  • Some ultrasounds scans require preparation which will be discussed with you at the time of making your appointment. The preparation for the scan varies depending on the area of the body to be scanned.

    For example, abdominal ultrasound scans may require you to fast from food for period of time or have a full bladder. Please visit our for patients section for more information.

    If you have a condition that prevents you from doing any preparation, please inform our staff when booking.
